Leaders in Florida are fighting back the epidemic of teens who uses vape pens into parking lots, hallways, and even in their classrooms in schools of South Florida. They educate teens along with their parents as their strategy and discuss the risks of using vape pens into their health.

Vape pens have more risks to teen’s health – and these risks are not just about nicotine addiction but also a huge possibility to have asthma, anxiety, lung cancer, seizures, and most especially, harming the brain while it is developing.

One reason why vape pens are becoming more and more popular among youths is that they can use them even when they are in indoor areas – like classrooms, malls, etc. without causing irritating odor. However, they do not realize that they are putting themselves to depend on nicotine.

In 2018, 25% of high school students in Florida was reported or current usage of electronic cigarettes, which is an increase of 58% when compared to a study in 2017, based on Florida Youth Tobacco Survey.

Teens don’t become addicted to cigarettes and tobacco, instead, they are becoming addicted to nicotine – which in both regular cigarettes and electric cigarettes.

And that is the reason why leaders in Florida have stepped into this growing problem. They are calling and reaching out to the parents of the youth who are using electronic cigarettes or vape pens and urge them to discuss this matter with their teens.

Nicotine has numerous effect on a human’s body. Here are the following:

  • Nicotine releases adrenaline and stimulates adrenal glands.
  • It also increases the heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing activity.
  • Nicotine minimizes the production of insulin, which causes blood sugar to arise or even glucose.
  • It releases dopamine in both areas of the brain – motivation and pleasure; the same effect that occurs when someone takes cocaine or heroin.
  • Nicotine is very addictive and can cause – cravings, emptiness, depression, anxiety, irritability, moodiness, and difficulty in focusing.

These are just some of the bad effects of nicotine and there’s still a long list of it. So, think if you still want to use an electronic cigarette. Think about your health.
